How do you water proof a leather jacket?

I know you cant do it 100% but how do you do it the best possible way so that it is partially water proof. I am planning on buying an expensive leather jacket and wondering how to do this.

1. you can spray it with silicone spray, the type for tents or rub it with mink oil, leather in its self is partly water proof. shouldent have to do any thing to it,
2. Go to a leather or boot shop and they will sell you a spray on product that should work pretty well.
3. I nearly killed myself doing it- but I took a naked leather and waterproofed it spraying one of our chemicals with an hvlp gun under an extraction vent- unfortunately it waterproofed my lungs....most awful feeling and suffered for weeks after- found out if you gel the product and wipe it on it still works great but doesnt try kill you! Contact me if you cant find anything else- beware of some silicones.
