How can I wash a leather jacket from a thrift store?
I just got a leather jacket at a thrift store and I want to wash it before I wear it, but I don't want to pay for dry cleaning. Are there any other ways I can clean it?

- you can't wash a leather jacket just spray frebreeze in side it it will be fine.
- Use a germicadal spray cleaner to wipe it inside and out. Do not soak. Then use saddle soap or a leather cleaner/conditioner to polish and soften it. Shine witha clean cloth. It will pass for a new coat.
- Leather should not be sprayed with anything. It is a skin and needs to breath. You can spot wash it with a damp wash cloth, very little soap and water if it needs it. The easiest and cheapest way to bring old leather back to life if petroleum jelly (Vasoline). Take a clean cloth, dab it into the Vasoline and wipe down the jacket. Rub it in until it is absorbed. Trust me, I do it all the time to my leather coat, shoes, hand bags and even my living room furniture.
- the leather can be washed with a cloth and mild soap and water, i dont think you cak throw it in the machine for the lining,,,guess a dry cleaner will have to do it.
- I am used the leather jacket. It really useful for me. You want to wash this jacket. It's so easy for wash. You must wash this in only hand OR washing power & don't use brush in jacket. Use this, I am used Thermo Quilted Jacket Venezuela is wash brush & any wash metrial. You just use this & see result....
- Realistically you should get it professionally cleaned.Considering where you got it. But you could spot wash it in the inside with a damp, wash cloth using a mild soap. Let air dry well For the outside leather I recommend you using saddle soap to clean it.Use a small amount on a soft rag and rub on in small circular motions.Change areas of the rag often as I'm sure the coat will be dirty.Allow the saddle soap to "soak" in for a few days before wearing. If the coat has any mold or mildew on it,it will have to be cleaned differently. This is where the professional comes in.If you still don't want to take it to the cleaners then I strongly suggest you clean it with "Tea Tree Oil" and a soft rag.You can get it at any health food store for a minimal price.Tea Tree Oil has a natural antibacterial in it that works wonders on people and things. Rub the Tea Tree Oil on the jacket and let soak in like described above(saddle soap). Then treat the coat with a good leather treatment.Doing so will help the coat last for years and preserve the natural softness and flexibility found in good leathers.Repeat as necessary. Enjoy your good find of a coat, hope this helps. P.S.Never store the coat in extreme heat or cold.Keep it soft and treated at all times.
